2013 Nashwauk Beacon Shiraz

Notes:

The 2013 Beacon Shiraz is the sixth release of this reserve wine from Nashwauk – the first vintage was in 2006.

Beacon Shiraz is a single vineyard wine, hand picked from Block 12 planted in 1974.

Similar to it the Wrecked Shiraz, this wine needs time in the bottle to unfold its story over the next 10-15 years.

Colour:

Dark almost black.

Nose:

Compact and alluring aromas of star anise, chocolate and red fruits are tightly woven and impossible to pick apart.

Palate:

A wine with immense structure and viscosity, its iron clad exterior is indicative of its potential to age. Bitter chocolate and dark fruits. Great depth and structure.

Winemaking:

Fruit was hand harvested on the 9th February 2013. Cold stabilised for 24 hour. Wine was then pressed to tank and allowed to sit for 12 hours before being put to barrel – 25% new French and the balance 2 & 3 year old barriques. It stayed in oak for 24 months.
